Faculty members were honored for outstanding teaching, research and service and undergraduate and graduate students who have excelled academically were recognized at the annual Department of English Awards ceremony May 4.

As with the educational experience offered throughout TCU’s disciplines, the Department of English encourages worldwide learning.  By studying literature and writing students can acquire the skills that help determine connections between ideas, build persuasive arguments and respect various perspectives.  During her welcome address, Department of English Chair, Dr. Karen Steele, posed the question — “What can you do with an English or Writing major?”

She went on to outline that some of the recent graduates of the Department of English are ”working in advertising and digital marketing; technical communication; film and entertainment; banking and finance; pursuing graduate studies in literature, rhetoric and composition, creative writing, law, linguistics, public policy, education, film studies, and medicine.”

A degree in English or Writing can translate to a wide range of professions and the Department of English is deeply committed to refining the skills that will sustain as professions transform and change.

Congratulations honorees!
