Dr. Celeste Menchaca Awarded Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship


Dr. Celeste Menchaca, Assistant Professor of History, has been awarded a prestigious Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Ford Foundation only awards 24 of these fellowships each year across a wide variety of academic fields including history, chemistry, earth sciences, sociology, and mathematics.  Dr. Menchaca will hold this fellowship in conjunction with another at the Clements Center for Southwest Studies at SMU. She will spend the year working on her book project Borderland Visualities, which explores the emerging relationship between science, technology, vision, and bureaucracy along the U.S.-Mexico borderlands in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
