On October 18th Jennifer Fuller was awarded the Milken Educator Award, one of the nation’s most prestigious teaching recognitions. Considered the “Oscars of Teaching,” the Milken Educator Award comes with a $25,000 gift for each recipient. Fuller was one of only 45 teachers to be recognized this school year.
Jennifer Fuller received her BA in English from Texas Christian University in 2001 and M.Ed. from UT Arlington in 2003. She now teaches English language arts at Arlington Collegiate High School, where she also serves on various leadership committees within the department.
Fuller was surprised when she received the award at an all-school assembly in front of students, faculty, media, and distinguished officials. Educators cannot apply for the Milken Educator Award, and are utterly unaware when they are under consideration. Candidates are reviewed by panels appointed by state departments of education. The Milken Family Foundation finalizes the selections, according to the Milken Educators Award website.
