Man on Fire was recently nominated by the International Documentary Association for its 2017 David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award. The film was co-produced by TCU alum James Chase Sanchez (English Ph.D ’17).
The film chronicles the suicide protest of Reverend Charles Moore, a white Methodist minister who set himself on fire in Grand Saline, Texas, in 2014 to publicize the town’s historic and contemporary racism.
Sanchez’s dissertation focused on the event, and he teamed up with director Joel Fendelman to interview several dozen witnesses and area residents. The film was completed in early 2017. Sanchez is currently developing the dissertation into a book.
Winners will be announced at the 33rd annual IDA Documentary Awards ceremony on December 9th at the Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles. Read more here.
