Purpose

Invite students to use any tool — including AI-powered design tools — to create original T-shirt designs that represent the spirit of the Human-Centered AI Cluster. The winning design will be printed and distributed as the official cluster T-shirt. This event encourages creative exploration of AI as a design tool while building community identity around the cluster.

Eligibility

Open to all currently enrolled TCU students (undergraduate and graduate) from any college or department
Individual entries only (no teams)
Each student may submit up to 1 design entry

What to Submit

Front Design
PNG or JPG, minimum 2000x2000px, 300 DPI recommended
Back Design
PNG or JPG, same specs as front
Designer name and TCU email (for verification)
Brief design statement (100 words max) — explain your concept and what tools you used

Design Guidelines

Designs should relate to the themes of the cluster: AI innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, humanities meets technology, creativity, human imagination
Must be appropriate for a university setting (no offensive, copyrighted, or trademarked content)
Designs should work well on a T-shirt (consider print area, color limitations, readability at a distance)
Any tool is welcome: AI image generators (Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, etc.), graphic design software, hand-drawn, mixed media
T-shirt base color TBD (likely purple or white to match cluster branding)

How It Works

Upload Your Design
Submit your front and back design images via the competition page. Uploads are not publicly visible — they go into a moderation queue.
Admin Review
Admins review submissions for appropriateness, completeness, and quality. Approved designs are published to the public voting gallery.
Public Voting
Approved designs are displayed in a gallery. Anyone can vote — one vote per IP address. Pick your single favorite design!
Winner Announced
Votes are tallied and the winning design is announced. The winner's design gets printed as the official cluster T-shirt!

Timeline (4 Weeks)

Announcement	Design & Submit	Voting & Results
Competition announced, guidelines shared, T-shirt base color revealed.	Students create and upload designs. Admin reviews submissions on a rolling basis.	Public voting opens (5 days), then voting closes and winner is announced.

Award

$300
The winning design gets printed as the official Human-Centered AI Cluster T-shirt. All approved participants receive recognition on the cluster website.

Faculty Membership

AddRan faculty members are invited to join the AI Cluster. Members participate in AI-integrated research projects, skill-building workshops, and consulting opportunities.

Student Research & AI Competitions

Undergraduate and graduate students can work alongside cluster faculty on AI research projects, participate in AI competitions and showcases, and develop practical AI skills.

Industry & Community Partnerships

We actively seek partnerships with industry, community organizations, and public institutions to bridge academia and industry through networking and collaboration.

Building the Cluster

Behind the events is a working group of AddRan faculty who meet regularly to discuss AI-related questions across disciplines. Those conversations have produced shared plans and a steady exchange of ideas among colleagues who would not otherwise be in the same room, giving the cluster a genuine intellectual core rather than simply a roster of names.
