MA in English
The tuition-free Master’s degree in English at TCU offers a flexible program of study that awards full tuition remission for several students each year in exchange for working as a teaching or program assistant. Our students engage a range of language arts skills, including composition, rhetoric and literary analysis skills, along with an array of other lifelong interdisciplinary skills, such as critical thinking, communication, research and information literacy skills, which can be applied to a variety of academic, social and professional environments. An MA in English prepares graduates to teach English at the college level and/or pursue a PhD in rhetoric, literature, creative writing or professional writing. It can also prepare graduates for careers in marketing, journalism, publishing and many other professions.
Our Master’s students take courses in rhetoric and composition; American, British and global literature; Latino, African-American and women’s literature; critical theory; professional writing and creative writing. Our students complete 30 approved hours of study within five years of matriculation, including six hours of thesis work and as many as nine hours focused on a minor or related field of study.
