This page introduces TCU’s three English majors and minors—English, Writing & Rhetoric, and Creative Writing—and shows how each one connects what you love to do with what the world needs. Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English

In this program, you will hone your writing and communication skills, develop critical and creative thinking that translates to a range of professions, from law to journalism to social work. To earn a BA with a major in English, you must complete 33 hours in English or writing (exclusive of ENGL 10803, 10833, 20803 and 20833).

As a Writing and Rhetoric student, you will explore the artistic and technical aspects of effective and compelling writing. Through varied coursework and class assignments related to rhetoric, style, and/or digital design, you will find your voice as a writer and communicator for the 21st century. To earn a BA with a major in Writing and Rhetoric, you must complete 33 hours in writing or English (exclusive of ENGL 10803, 10833, 20803 and 20833).

In this program, you will develop the artistic and technical aspects of creative writing in poetry, prose, drama, and/or digital writing. You will study representative authors and take part in collaborative writing workshops to help you hone your writing skills and your craft. To earn a BA with a major in Creative Writing, you must complete 33 hours of courses in Creative Writing, English, and Writing (exclusive of ENGL 10803, 10833, 20803 and 20833).

Minor in English

The English minor allows you to take a variety of courses and choose subjects in literatures and cultures you're most passionate about. To earn a minor in English, you must complete 18 semester hours in English.


Minor in Writing and Rhetoric

The minor in Writing and Rhetoric introduces you to themes of writing, publishing, cultures, rhetorics, digital rhetorics, and design. The minor in Writing and Rhetoric requires 18 semester hours in writing and rhetoric.


Minor in Creative Writing

A minor in Creative Writing is a great way to experience the phenomenal writing courses we offer and build lifelong writing skills. This minor requires 18 credit hours of courses.
