The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia
Texas Christian University is home to the North Texas National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. NCTA is funded by the Freeman Foundation and the goals are “to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about East Asia in elementary and secondary schools nationwide.”
The North Texas site offers a 30-hour, 10 week, face to face workshop each year to help K-12 teachers incorporate more about East Asia into their classrooms. Registration for the course is free, and participants completing the program will receive a set of books covering the material in the seminar as well as 30 CTE hours. Participants who complete the program are also eligible to apply for a subsidized study trip to Asia, offered through the national NCTA program.
The next seminar is Journey to Asia: a cultural, historical and political overview of the world’s great civilizations and it will be offered in Spring 2020.
