At TCU English, join the community of students, scholars, rhetoricians, and creative writers, where we come together to discuss, critique, and share the worldviews that have and continue to shape the English language, literature, and the arts.
We offer three undergraduate majors and minors in English, Writing & Rhetoric, and Creative Writing that develop your strengths as a critical thinker, writer, and speaker in local, national, and global contexts.
Students leave our programs with a more profound knowledge of language, literature, and culture and skills that are valuable to a wide range of professional careers. Many of our alumni have pursued successful careers in fields ranging from law to journalism to social work.
By studying literature and writing, you’ll learn how to make connections between ideas, construct persuasive arguments and respect multiple viewpoints. You’ll gain critical-thinking skills that translate to a range of professions — from law to journalism to social work.
A degree from the Department of English is exceptional not just in terms of the excellence of our work but in the unique experiences fostered by the exploration of literature, rhetoric and writing. Students and faculty are committed to a variety of intellectual and creative pursuits, working together and independently to challenge and exceed expectations.
