Creative Writing Program Choices
Students may study creative writing as part of a BA in English or in writing, and may also choose to minor in creative writing (either in combination with an English or writing major, or with another TCU degree).
Our minor programs are flexible and customizable to students’ own interests in the study and production of texts.
Build Your Skills/Prepare for Careers
The English department offers courses in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction, as well as publication courses, which allow students to work on the production and editing of eleven40seven, the undergraduate literary journal.
Opportunities outside of the classroom are equally dynamic, with student groups like The Bryson Literary Society and The Live Oak Reading Series, which brings writers at all levels of their careers to TCU to share their work and ideas with students.
We conduct an annual Creative Writing Contest, which is open to all TCU students and alumni. Thousands of dollars in prize money are awarded, and winners are recognized at a ceremony during the spring semester.
Additionally, TCU is home to descant, a nationally recognized literary journal, which has published the work of some of the most famous writers of the last century for more than 50 years.
