Studying sociology

Learn how to tackle big-picture problems in our world.

People cross a busy street

The basic goal of sociology is to understand social interaction, social groups and culture with the hope that this knowledge will improve the human condition. Sociology fits well with many other degrees and disciplines.

As a Sociology major, you’ll examine the significant social and cultural forces that shape personal lives, groups, communities, nations and the world. You’ll learn how to navigate complex social structures and influence social policy and change. You’ll develop transferable skills — critical reasoning, social sensitivity, leadership and knowledge of social institutions — to be successful in any career.
