How many years have you been teaching in the MLA program and what class or classes have you taught?
I have been teaching in the program for about 20 years and I have taught 2 courses, Critical Issues in Crime and Justice” and “Critical Issues in Social Justice”.

Tell us a little bit about your specialty or area of research?
I research in three areas primarily. These include issues in crime and the media, urban sub-cultures, and policymakers perceptions of criminal justice policy.
How does your background inform your teaching and scholarship?
I have an eclectic academic background, holding degrees in three different disciplines. This multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approaches serves well the expansive topics I teach and study.
What is an interesting fact about yourself that you like to share with your students?
I enjoy painting and come from a family of artists. My son and my brother are both quite well known for their studio work.
What do you hope students walk away from your class having learned or gained?
I hope that students come to realize that it is easy to have an opinion on policy and issue but it takes effort to have informed opinion. However, it is only informed opinion that should drive participation in democracy.

My most recent publication looked at the characterization of victimization in slasher films.
