Students apply online. Click on “Log In” at the top of the page and select “Apply for ROTC” in the middle of the page.

You must meet the Entry Requirements.

  1. Email us at: tcuafrotc@tcu.edu. Provide us with your phone, email,  school you will be attending, major, graduation year, and any questions that you may have.  Det 845 Recruiting Officer will contact you with orientation and program details.

Mandatory documents

All new students must bring:

  • original birth certificate
  • original Social Security Card
  • copy of shot records
  • COMPLETED Form 28 sports physical, signed by physician
  • Valid State ID

Entry Requirements

The Air Force ROTC is not for everyone. It takes a dedicated student with good grades and a strong will. You not only have to survive in this capacity, but you also must thrive in it. It might be tough, but it is worth every second. Use this section to explore the various requirements and standards that will help you succeed in the Air Force ROTC.

 Offered to first-year and sophomore students who meet the following minimum membership requirements:
  • Enrolled full-time (12 semester hours) in an accredited college that hosts or has a crosstown agreement with an Air Force ROTC detachment
  • United States citizen (if on scholarship)
  • In good physical condition
  • Meet Air Force height and weight standards
  • Of good moral character
  • Be of legal age as required by the state attending Air Force ROTC
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 (3.0 to be eligible for scholarship)
  • Meet the age requirements:
    • Rated (pilot or combat systems officer)—commissioned before reaching the age of 29
    • Non-rated—commissioned by age 39 (waivable up to age 42)

Offered to juniors and seniors who have already committed to a four-year post-graduation service commitment with the Air Force.  Requirements include:

  • Meet all GMC membership requirements
  • Pass the Air Force Fitness Assessment (FA)
    • FA is an exam composed of three events in the following order: push-ups, crunches, and a 1.5-mile run. The test is used to ensure cadets maintain an acceptable level of fitness.
  • Pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT)
    • AFOQT is a standardized test similar to the SAT and ACT that measures aptitudes and is used to select applicants for officer commissioning programs or specific training programs. This is a required test for all cadets and students on scholarship or in the POC.
  • Complete a summer Field Training course

 

Programs Available

Designed for high school seniors or college freshmen!

  • 2 years of General Military Course
  • Field Training (mandatory summer training program)
  • 2 Years of Professional Office Course

Designed for college students who are starting their first semester of sophomore year!  The Three-Year Program mimics the 4-year program with two major differences: 

  • 2 years of the foundational General Military Course are taken concurrently (first & sophomore years)
  • Would attend Field Training (mandatory summer training program) following first year in the program

The ASCP offers active duty enlisted personnel the opportunity to earn a commission while completing their bachelor's degree as an Air Force ROTC cadet. Those selected temporarily separate from active duty Air Force to join ROTC and become a full-time student at a participating college. Participants receive tuition and fees scholarships for up to $15,000 per year, and a textbook allowance of $600 per year. Applicants are not authorized to pursue a second bachelors or graduate degree through ASCP.

Active duty Airmen can take advantage of the Professional Officer Course-Early Release Program (POC-ERP) to receive an early release from active duty Air Force to enter Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). This program is open to students in all majors who are within two years of completing all bachelor’s degree and commissioning requirements. Those who are selected separate from the active duty Air Force to join ROTC and become a full-time student at a participating college to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Upon graduation and completion of the two-year program, you will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and return to active duty for at least four years. If selected for POC-ERP, you will no longer collect military pay and benefits until you graduate.

Members of other branches of the service wanting to join Air Force ROTC and pursue a commission as an Air Force officer may apply for the Professional Officer Course - Early Release Program (POC-ERP) or the Airman Scholarship and Commissioning Program (ASCP).

You must first obtain a conditional release from your enlistment from your service's personnel system. Then you must meet the requirements for the program you are applying to: ASCP or POC-ERP.
