Areas of Study


Bachelor of Arts in Religion

The BA with a major in religion requires 30 semester hours, including:

  • Six hours in each of three broad course groups (18 total hours)
  • A three-hour capstone RELI 40603 — Senior Seminar or, if pursuing departmental honors, RELI 30003 — Honors Seminar in Religion
  • Nine additional elective hours of religion

At least three hours must be taken at the 10000 level, and no more than six hours may be taken at that level. Three hours must be taken in a specifically designated Sophomore Seminar. At least 18 hours must be taken at the 30000 level or above.

Minor in Religion

The minor in religion requires 18 semester hours with at least one course from each of the three broad course groups:

  • Communities
  • Texts and Ideas
  • Society and Culture

Minors are required to take at least one 10000-level course. No more than two 10000-level courses will count toward the minor. At least nine of the 18 hours must be at the 30000 or 40000 level.

Interdisciplinary and Emphasis Areas

The study of religion is inherently interdisciplinary.  Religion faculty teach courses in a rich array of interdisciplinary, area minors and emphases offered at TCU. The courses below are just a sample of other study areas that add a rich interpretive lenses through which to view the world.
