Chair’s Message

From Abraham to Zeus, learn it all here.

Religion has always been with us. Throughout history, it has explored the deepest questions human beings can ask, and it has taken a central place in the lives of virtually all civilizations and cultures.

Explore this enduring aspect of human experience with us. Consider the sacred texts of the Jewish and Christian traditions — our professors will help you demystify these ancient books. Or encounter Islam through your own study of it. Or explore modern American Evangelicalism or the many varieties of religions the U.S. has produced.

Maybe you’re interested in the impact of the digital world on religious expression. Or you have deep questions about ethics and race or how Latina/os employ religion to navigate their social realities.

Whether it’s Rasta or Buddhism or Native American traditions, you’ll learn what various religions offer the world today. And you’ll come to understand how these religions —  whether in a historical sense or in contemporary settings — impact policymaking, ideas of social justice and day-to-day personal interactions around the globe.
