Professor David Colón’s essay, “Making It Nuevo: Latina/o Modernist Poetics Remake High Euro-American
Modernism” (pp.353-370), was published in the first edition of The Cambridge History of Latina/o American Literature. This chapter argues how the contributions that William Carlos Williams, Salomón de la Selva, and Julia de Burgos made to poetic innovation. While aesthetically diverse, all expressed a fundamental ideolinguistic tension definitive of modernist poetry of the Americas: Latina/o opposition to Anglo cultural imperialism. Congratulations, Dr. Colón!
