In addition to TCU’s full range of scholarships, AddRan College of Liberal Arts offers competitive scholarships for liberal arts majors in writing, Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC and Spanish.

The following scholarships are available only to AddRan College students:

 

Sandra Brown Excellence in Literacy Fiction Scholarship

Amount: Full tuition for junior and senior year

This scholarship was established by Sandra and Michael Brown to provide a full tuition scholarship to a TCU student who demonstrates both academic excellence and significant potential as a fiction writer. This scholarship was established by Sandra and Michael Brown to provide a full tuition scholarship to a TCU student who demonstrates both academic excellence and significant potential as a fiction writer. The scholarship is given to a rising junior with 54 credit hours and provides full tuition benefits for the junior and senior year.

How to apply

Interested students must be English or writing majors and submit a writing portfolio of 50 to 70 pages. The portfolio must include an example, or examples, of original fiction—either short stories or part of a longer work—and a reflective introduction that discusses the student’s writing, goals and interests. Two letters of recommendation are required. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better and remain active in TCU’s literacy culture.

Air Force ROTC Scholarship

Amount: $3,000-$25,000 per year

TCU Air Force ROTC offers scholarships — from two to four years — awarded on merit to the most outstanding students who apply. And automatic scholarships are available for students pursuing foreign language majors, specified engineering majors, and nursing.

Scholarships can be valued at $3,000-$25,000 per year depending on the student’s major. In addition to paying all or part of tuition, the scholarship offers a monthly stipend of $250 to $400 a month, plus $900 per year for books and fees.

At the recommendation of Air Force ROTC, qualified Air Force ROTC Scholarship recipients who score 1290 or higher on the SAT, 28 on the ACT, or transfer to TCU with a 3.25 GPA will be considered by the Financial Aid Office for an on-campus room and board grant of up to $10,500.

Note: Awards cannot be combined with academic scholarships or TCU-funded grants. Students will be judged against the applicant pool and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an award.

 

Army ROTC Scholarship

Amount: $3,000-$5,000 per year

TCU Army ROTC offers scholarships — from two to four years — awarded on merit to the most outstanding students who apply.

Scholarships can be valued at $3,000-$5,000 per year depending on the student’s major. In addition to paying all or part of tuition, the scholarship offers a monthly stipend of $3,000 to $5,000 per year, plus $1,200 per year for books and fees.

At the recommendation of Army ROTC, qualified ROTC Scholarship recipients who score 1290 or higher on the SAT, 28 on the ACT, or transfer to TCU with a 3.25 GPA, will be considered by the Financial Aid Office for an on-campus room and board grant of up to $10,500.

The Bryant F. Collins and Edward A. Bell Scholarships in Spanish

Amount: $3,500

Application deadline: April 15

The Bryant F. Collins Scholarship and the Edward A. Bell Scholarship are awarded annually to outstanding students of Spanish and Hispanic studies. The two awards usually total about $3,500.

Eligibility

Students must major in Spanish and Hispanic studies and have a TCU cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, plus a GPA of at least 3.5 in TCU Spanish courses. To apply, students must have completed a minimum of six credit hours at the level of 30000 or above. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office.

Application procedure

The following materials must be submitted to the Scholarship Selection Committee of the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies:

  • Completed application form (available from the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies, Scharbauer 3100)
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty who are familiar with the student’s academic work: one letter from a Spanish professor and one letter from a faculty member of a department other than the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies.
  •  A 500-word typed essay, double-spaced, written in Spanish. The topic of the essay should be any subject related to the student’s career goals, his or her experience with Spanish and Hispanic culture, or another topic related to the student’s study of Spanish and Hispanic studies.
